The Middle East is an area where automobile is king and fuel is low-cost, frequently leaving little reward to discover more environmentally-friendly ways of moving around.

But this year, as demonstrations across the Middle East have pressed up the rate of oil, the issue of discovering alternative sources of fuel has actually come into sharp focus.
